I've known ever since Adam died that the kindness and generosity showered on our family was something extraordinary that we could never repay.
Hundreds of kind souls - from family and friends, law enforcement professionals and military veterans, to hockey families, neighbors, childhood friends and absolute strangers showed up for us - attended Adam's funeral, watched it on livestream, lined the streets to honor his processional, brought us food, gave us such thoughtful gifts and generous donations.
It's been humbling, overwhelming and truly beautiful. I still get cards in the mail that bring me to tears. People are so kind.
The idea to give back in Adam's name came to me early on. But, it takes time to create something that you truly wish you didn't have to. A nonprofit memorial fund in your late husband's honor.
I'd rather just have Adam back.
Since that isn't possible, using our pain to spread joy and help others seems like the next best thing.
The Lt. Adam Gustafson Memorial Fund exists to encourage aspiring law enforcement officers; provide needed equipment, resources, and support to local law enforcement agencies; to show appreciation to the men and women who serve our communities as first responders and those who work in the criminal justice system.
On May 18, 2021, we lost a wonderful husband, father, friend, and police officer to a heart attack and undiagnosed heart disease. Adam Gustafson served as a Lieutenant at the West Fargo Police Department. His badge number was #305. We have created this fund and Mission 305 to keep Adam’s memory alive by making an impact in our community.
Mission 305 is our lofty goal to give back, donate, support, and show kindness at least 305 times in the communities Adam grew up in, worked in, and lived in – the places and spaces that touched his life.
When you donate to this fund, you help ensure the best and brightest continue to answer the call to serve in law enforcement and that those doing this difficult work are supported and appreciated.
Today, Thursday, February 9, 2023, is Giving Hearts Day.
Adam's Memorial Fund has the privilege of participating in Giving Hearts Day this year. With match funds that make your donations given during this 24-hour fundraising event eligible to be matched.
It means the dollars you donate on February 9th will double their impact.
If you'd consider partnering with us today, we would appreciate your support.
We are so grateful for each and every donation.
